Design/Materials/Build Quality

Design/Style/Look

Utilitarian design, black and grey mixed with a bit of smoked chrome makes this a rather less noticeable bluetooth headset.  The buttons are nice raised rubber that are easy to identify when not seeing what you press. They also seem to be robust enough to stand the test of time.

Comfort

These are not for everyone, not the smallest of housings, as a lot has to be packed into them, the battery, amplifier, DAC, microphone etc. However, once inserted they are actually quite comfortable. If your ears can support the rather large housing. Once inserted (over the ear) they sit quite properly and don’t shift around. When worn cable behind your neck – they stay in place. If you need to make phone calls I recommend only plugging in the left side, so the microphone is actually picking up your voice in the front and not behind your ear which is quite challenging.

I wore them watching TV for hours and had no issues with them with long term wear.

 Supplied accessories:

They come nicely packaged with ta micro USB charging cable, a carrying case and 3 different sizes of ear tips.

 Sound

MEE audio has produced some impressive sounding in-ears in the past that always punched above what they should have. the same applies here. I have the Jaybird X bluetooth in ears and to be honest the MEE X7 Plus blow them out of the water. More comfortable, better fit and way better sound quality. What MEE manages to squeeze out of the 6mm micro driver is impressive.

Bass: Yep. Powerful, huge, dominant. Leaves nothing to ask for. It’s great bass. Defined and impactful, maybe a tiny bit of bloat but certainly appreciated for sports and workouts when you need to get it going and let the music drive you forward. That’s how a sports in-ear should sound!

Mid-range: Mids are there but a bit receessed, the MEE is clearly aimed to provide a fun sound signature suitable for todays music.

Treble: While the overall clarity is really really nice, the treble is a bit congested and a tad rolled off. Overall still great detail and enjoyable, fatigue free treble.

Sound Stage and instruments separations: A nice soundstage that is appropriate to watch movies as well as listening to pumping beats in the gym. I think these sound better than some more expensive, cabled in-ears.

Pros & Cons:

Pros:

  • very good sound quality
  • incredible bluetooth performance, long range and connection stability
  • microphone and remote in the cable
  • liquid repellent coating (perfect for gym wear)
  • fun sound signature on steroids – best sound quality of any in-ear Bluetooth headphone I heard
  • 7.5 h battery life

Cons:

  • size could be too large for some
  • microphone/remote at odd location when worn over ear (only way)
  • not the best for phone calls

Conclusion

The perfect Gym-buddy, the perfect on-the-go music buddy (no wires is such a nice feeling of “freedom”), the perfect movie buddy (with the MEE Audio connect).

The value for money from these is simply outstanding. The sound quality with lovely extended bass – pleasant mids and nice treble – the support of the latest Bluetooth standards transmission codecs, really makes this a great BT companion. Not the best to make lots of phone calls – so buy them to enjoy music and movies!
