 Design

This by far the most comfortable headphones i’ve tried which I could listen for a long session without any fatigue on my neck or discomfort. Industrial ergonomics design balance using stainless steel, hard plastic, padded leather and striking cloth like materials is what makes this headphones beautiful. Having the right weight and perfect clamping force are the reason this cans are so comfortable. The metal hinge where V-moda calls unique collapsible CLIQFOLD design are meant to be small and very portable. The company claims that these headphones can indure several drops because of its tank like build and premium materials.

Out of the box

The XS is shipped in small box clip on type for the opening and inside is another small hard case which makes me wonder how are they able to fit a headphones with that size. The case is well built and zip type cover with a small carabiner that could hook on your bags. Once open, the XS is folded inside the case and the fabric type cable with one button and a mic is well compacted inside.

Style

One thing that stands out with this headphones are the pressure points and the gaps in between your head. Compare to other headphones design, there is almost a small gap across the metal frame that wraps along the head making it look more good rather that those bulky earcups and wide frame. The optional custom shields on the cups reminds me of my Beyerdynamics COPS to have that unique design. V-moda on the other hand is quite serious about it and having the customers to have their own 3D printed custom shield out of aluminum or even gold.

Build quality

V-moda’s STEELFLEX headband promise that it can take a beating as bending it flat is no problem. They also claim that this cans were tested beyond Military-Grade standards to ensure quality and longevity. The kevlar type cables are also tough and seems to endure everyday use without worrying too much. V-moda assures that you wont damage the headphones when not in use by providing it with a durable zip case that folds and size that maximize the space taken by the headphones.

Comfort

Of all the headphones i own, from Grado 225 to PS500, Fidelio X1 and AKG Q701 this by far the most comfortable headphones i’ve wear. Not only because its an on the go cans, but the design and material used. The ear cups are a little small for my ears and coming from a full sized cans this is very different to what i used. Surprisingly i was able to listen more without having a fatigue except on the padded earcups that sticks to my ears.

 Sound

Bass: It is amazing how this small headphones delivers a bass response that is punchy, deep and extends a little. Pack with power and impact and with the small earcups it really helps to get a better seal to have the lows delivers the ommph.

Mid-range: The mids are well balanced with the lows. Vocals are very natural and detailed and the resolution is barely there.

Treble: Highs are perfectly balanced as well. Cymbals are well pronounced that extends a little but not to become bright during fast paced tracks.

Sound Stage and instruments separations: Although the XS suffers from dynamic compression, imaging has depth and clarity despite its small size. Separation of instruments feels like on a little room coming from full size or multi-BA IEMS that has almost a pinpoint accuracy.
