2019 LG smart TVs are getting AirPlay 2 and HomeKit update

When LG announced the release of new smart TVs for 2019 everyone anticipated what the promised updates will be. Now, in its latest press release, LG reveals that the 2019 TV lineup featuring OLED and NanoCell TVs is rolling out this week in US and South Korea, with other markets following soon. It also confirmed more details about the features coming by the middle of 2019 to its newest 2019 LG smart TVs.

The new 2019 LG smart TVs are going to offer AI picture and sound quality by relying on the second generation Alpha 9 processor and delivering an extremely realistic image at the optimized level of brightness. By the mid-year, they are also going to get an upgrade including support for Apple AirPlay 2 as well as Apple HomeKit making it easier to stream video and audio content. This update will also make the connectivity with other Apple smart home products more convenient. Moreover, there will be another firmware update which will add Amazon Alexa to the 2019 TVs that already have Google Assistant compatibility.

The following 2019 TV models are set for the AirPlay 2 and Apple HomeKit update:

  • LG OLED (2019)
  • LG NanoCell SM9X series (2019)
  • LG NanoCell SM8X series (2019)
  • LG UHD UM7X series (2019)

Certain selected models of the 2019 OLED and NanoCell TVs are going to have support for HDMI 2.1 intended for watching 4K content, 4K high frame rate, automatic low latency mode, variable refresh rate and even enhanced audio return channel. All the 2019 LG smart TVs are going to adjust the Dolby Atmos compatible content for a better HDR experience. Unfortunately, users of the 2017 and 2018 LG TVs will not get the AirPlay 2 and Apple HomeKit update.
