Android Auto now works wirelessly on Google devices

Android Auto is Google’s app that can display and connect your phone to your car dash. Earlier this week Google announced that now, Pixel and Nexus users will be able to use Android Auto wirelessly, Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Nexus 5X, and Nexus 6P devices running Android Oreo or higher will be able to run the new feature. The new feature will automatically load Android Auto on your car display once you enter the car, with your phone in your pocket, without plugging it in, the phone will automatically connect via Wi-Fi.

Unfortunately, it’s not enough to have a Google phone for the feature to work with you, you also need to have the right gear, for now, the new feature only works on two head units from JVC and Kenwood. These two companies introduced their compatible head units earlier this year at CES 2018 (The International Consumer Electronics Show). Google said that it expects more devices to be supported throughout the year. When it comes to other devices being supported, Google didn’t talk about it yet, but even if they were supported, older head units probably are not able to run the new feature.
