Apple is planning a new “Netflix for games” subscription service

According to a recent report from Cheddar, Apple is planning to launch its own Netflix like gaming service. The report cites five anonymous sources that said that Apple is talking to developers to be part of its new subscription service.

The new service would work just like Netflix, meaning that subscribers will have to pay a fee in exchange for unlimited access to gaming titles. This means that Apple is planning to take a direct part in releasing new gaming titles. There is still no news on how much would such a service cost, or when would this new service be available.

ِApple’s App Store has a lot of games and some of the games are the most downloaded apps in the store. But most of the games on the App Store are free to download. A gaming subscription service needs more interacting games on board rather than the simple games that you can play right now on your iPhone or iPad.

One of the possibilities would be to actually start a new platform with new games that will be exclusively available on Apple devices, and could be accessed through the platform. In this case, Apple would be starting a new platform that could compete with other home gaming consoles like Nintendo Switch. This option is also on the table, especially after the last iPad Pro event where Apple compared the power of the A12X processor to an Xbox One.

Apple is facing some financial problems due to the drop in their hardware sales. The company announced that it will double its 2016 services revenue by 2020, and such a service would be one source of revenue for the tech giant.

The release of this new subscription service is still not confirmed. The project is still in its early stages and could be canceled at any moment.
