Apple Introduces Their All-New iPod for 2019

It’s rather odd to think that the iPod, the device which revolutionized the portable digital music experience, is one device in particular that I’ve never reviewed. In fact, it’s been over a decade since I’ve owned one, and roughly 4 years since Apple last released a new iPod Touch model (and totally killed off all other standalone music player iPod models).
In recent times Apple has really fallen behind as competitive products from the likes of Sony, Pioneer, Astell & Kern, and smaller companies like FiiO and Shanling have taken the lead. But it looks like 2019 is the year that Apple finally decides to make a return with an all-new iPod Touch.

The 2019 iPod Touch

The latest Touch model comes with quite a number of improvements over previous generations. Unfortunately we still do not get expandable storage, but for the first time the new model does offer up to 256GB of internal storage.
Physically, nothing really seems to have changed much since we’re getting the same display size and resolution as the previous 6th Gen iPod Touch, and the dimensions and weight have also remained the same.

They have, however, incorporated their new A10 Fusion chip which promises to speed things up by quite a bit, and in particular Apple has stated that this chip will increase graphics performance by up to 3 times. No doubt, this was certainly a key selling-point considering that Apple is preparing to launch Apple Arcade.

However, what does seem to be quite clear is that the iPod is geared towards being a multimedia device, rather than a music-focused one. In fact, when we take a look at the tech specs on the new iPod’s product page, the  only  mention of anything related to audio are the various compatible audio formats, where the overview section only mentions the capacity.

Pricing

Apple has stated that the new iPod Touch comes with a lower price tag. The 32GB model will set you back $199, the 128GB model is $299, and finally the 256GB unit will cost $399.
