Audio Bulbs: Everything You Need to Know

Introduction:

As technology progresses, so are the appliances that power our homes. Smart homes are now always the forefront of every technology exhibition, offering the newest ways you can automate all the appliances in your home.

One of the new trends nowadays are smart bulbs that you can instantly control with your smartphone. These bulbs usually connect to your home network and can be fully automated using any device. Another variation of this is the ‘speaker bulb’ or rather, the ‘audio bulb’.

What is Audio Bulbs?

It doesn’t have any formal name, but merely this is a different variation from the smart bulb. It’s a great feature that maybe you never knew needed – built-in speaker that can well, stream your music through Wi-Fi or Bluetooth which you can then operate using your mobile device through an app.

So what does this mean? This could possibly bring music to areas in your home that was once never possible. It’s a cool concept that might possibly cater to a niche part of the market, but it could also cater to every consumer once it becomes mainstream.

If you look at it, audio will always be a part of the smart home revolution, no matter the form. We probably didn’t expect it though to be part of a light bulb.

Audio bulbs originally came as an extra feature on most smart bulbs when it debuted in the past few years and slowly these have evolved from simply a feature on the accessory to a full pledged selling point for the smart bulb.

Audio Bulbs Providers:

Companies Sengled, AwoX, MiPow and Klipsch were among the first companies to release smart bulbs that offer audio streaming support. Most of these audio-supported bulb were released almost a year back, and companies are slowly adapting to the same feature.

Sengled in particular, offered something truly unique with its products: its line of Pulse bulbs for example, also come in pairs when bought. This means that whatever you play through the bulbs,  you’ll always get full stereo sound. What I liked though about the Pulse is that one speaker can act as the master while the other is a satellite. The master can then support seven more satellite bulbs for an even fuller sound. How smart can that be?

Alternatively, you can also check out AwoX’s StriimLIGHT, that alternatively uses Wi-Fi as a main point of connection. Since we all know that Bluetooth somehow degrades the sound quality of music, the option to connect through Wi-Fi is a much better option. Not only that, this particular bulb can also act as a network extender, allowing you to strengthen you Wi-Fi signal across your home.

You can also check out the MiPow PlayBulb Color that also uses the same Bluetooth functionality to let you stream your music – and also adds an option where you can use the bulbs as a speaker and will automatically play music as an alarm. You have to admit, that is definitely cool.

Audio bulbs will always be part of the smart home revolution and what we are seeing now from these products are just the start. In the future, you might not even need to use speakers for your home theater – maybe these bulbs will evolve in a way you’d never think would be possible.
