BBC is releasing a special binaural audio episode of Doctor Who

After many tests on the virtual surround audio technology at BBC since, the well-known network is ready to release the first-ever binaural audio-enhanced episode of Doctor Who. Grab your favorite pair of headsets and be ready.

The special episode of the famous series is going to be available in binaural audio form at BBC’s iPlayer, and it’ll provide users with experimental virtual 3D audio that has been in the work since 2012. You won’t need any special headsets as you’ll be able to hear sounds from all directions using just about any headphone.

We recently reported Sennheiser releasing Ambeo Smart headphones for smartphones, which allows users to listen and record in 3D.

You can check out “Knock Knoc”, the fourth episode of Doctor Who season 10 through iPlayer next Saturday (6th of May). This isn’t the first time that the BBC experiment with a public release of the technology as it did so in the past with Radio 3 program.
