Design

The SIE2i are Bose’s sport version of their IE2 line, they are the latest addition to their headphones.

Out of the box

The SIE2 comes in 2 models the one we are reviewing (SIE2i) is compatible with apple products such as iPhone, iPad , iPod. And the other one (SIE2) which is slightly cheaper in case you are not planing to use them with an apple device.

Directly from the box you get the earphones attached to a cable of matching color, with an inline 3 button remote control and a built in mic, it allows you to control you music player and also make and receive phones calls.

The attached cable is relatively short so it wont get in the way if you are using the earphones while working out with your iPhone when it’s placed safely in the armband. There is also an extension cable in case you didn’t want to put your media player on your arm and needed a longer cable.

A very nicely designed, good quality arm band comes with a matching color with the headphones. It is specially designed to fit an iPhone 5/5s so with a nice small pocket to pack your headphones in when not in use. You’ll also get 3 pairs in different sizes of the stayhear tips (small, medium, large)

Nice practical design for activity and office use because they allow you to be aware of your surroundings incase you are riding a bike outside or working out with friends and you need to hear if someone is talking to you, or even if in your office you need to hear your phone ringing. What sets the SIE2 form Bose’s other IE2 headphone line is not only the nice colors but it is the sweat and wether proof design that allows to use them while working out or during your outdoor activities without having to worry about ruining them.

Style

They have a very stylish design, the black and blue are a very nice and eye catching match. you can see a nice Bose logo on each earpiece. It comes in 4 color options Green, purple, Orange, Blue. And the reebok armband is very well designed and fits their styles.

Build quality

The build quality is really good, they are rigid and can withstands the extra pressure needed while working out. The rubberized colored coating is well executed with a nice feeling. Nice job done in the sweat and weather proofing part, you can use them for the long hours in the gym and outdoor activities without worrying about damaging them with the sweat. Finaly, the ear tips are pretty durable and I don’t think it will require changing before long time of usage.

Comfort

Stayhear tips are great and they really serve their purpose to keep your earphones securely steady while working out. Light weight is a big plus, you forget you have them on within few mins of usage.

Supplied accessories:

  • Reebok fitness arm band
  • 3 pair stayhear tips (S,M,L)
  • Extension cable (533mm)
  • Clothing clip

Sound

The SIE2 have a soft and warm sound, very easy on the ears and at the same time they carry enough power to boost your energy while running on the treadmill or in the park. I’ve tried them with many types of music and many different setups and locations and they performed well, they do have a nice frequency response across the board.

but to be honest I expected little more considering Bose’s reputation and history in personal audio. Don’t get me wrong they sound really good but they still miss that last tweak to really impress, the sound needs a little more definition and depth.

Really nice beats and sound effects in Armin Van Buuren’s Beautiful life, the guitar sounds were a joy to listen to in Gino D Auri’s Flamenco passion CD Las Minas track, Wisemen By James Hunt and Waitin’ on The Day by John Mayer were both a breeze, and a very nice bass and piano notes on Maroon 5 Sunday morning.

Bass: The SIE2i can give a good amount of bass, it is balanced and have good punch. The response is concentrated on the upper bass part, but with the low frequencies and deep bass i felt they are laking a little in performance.

Mid-range: Good Mids response, clear strong vocal, which are nicely brought forward. And the instrumental music such as classic and jazz sounds really good.

Treble: High notes are well presented, and sounds clear and soft on the ears. They could use a little tuning to produce a little shinier treble, it just misses that extra crisp.

Sound Stage and instruments separations: This is the area were I wasn’t immersed with the SIE2i, maybe I set my standard a bit high, but at the end these are Bose and i believe they should live up to their name. Sound stage is narrow and deep they have a very warm sound character, fair instrument separation but you feel they miss the wow factor.

Pros & Cons:

Pros:

  • Light wight and comfortable for long listening
  • Reebok fitness arm band provided
  • weather and sweat proof

Cons:

  • no carry case provided

Conclusion

Out of variety exercise earbuds I’ve tried the SIE2 easily climbed to the top of my list specially if your looking for warm sounding earphone that won’t isolate you form your surroundings. Maybe they are not the best in sound quality I have tried, but I would really recommend them to everyone for a good pair of sport earphones.
