Just Like the Vinyl.. Cassette sales increased in 2016!

If you think that only because we’re now living in 2017 there are no more Cassette tapes being sold, let me tell you that you’re wrong, as the latest report from Billboard tells us.

Cassette sales went up in 2016 with 129,000 copies sold only in the US, that’s not the biggest number ever but it’s more than what we saw in 2015 and that’s the strange thing here as the number should be decreasing year over year but it has been increased by 74% from 2015.

The online stores are the most common way to buy these tapes as the report said, around 43% were sold online while the rest were sold at non-traditional music stores like Urban Outfitters.

The Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol.1 is the most sold tape with 4000 copies while “The Revolution’s Purple Rain” sold 2000 with 3000 copies from re-issued version of Eminem’s The Slim Shady LP.

One of the biggest reasons for that increase in Cassette sales is the prisons, as there are no ways allowed to listen to music other than cassette tapes, so many copies sent there for prisoners.
