Chrome 65 is now available for Chrome OS devices

Two weeks ago, the new version of Google Chrome “Chrome 65” was released for Android, Mac, Windows, and Linux but not for Chrome devices, and now two weeks later it is finally available for Chrome OS. with some security updates against Specter variant 2, and some fixes for older devices against meltdown. There are some new other updates in the Enterprise version.

Right now, in the new version, users can set a short video as a profile icon. The “Take Photo” tool in the People menu now can record video in addition to snapping a regular photo with the front camera. This short video plays on the bottom-right corner on your lockscreen.

Another change is that the search functionality now includes everything, after it was restricted by Google only for Google Drive and local device folders. Google also mentioned in their report “Expanded unzipping support within Files app for files hosted on Drive”.

There’s more new features in Chrome 65 for Chrome OS and here’s a list of all the changes and updates in the regular Chrome app:

  • Expand the select-to-speak into six options.
  • ARC++ WM resize shadow and drag magnetization.
  • MIDI API support for Android apps running on Chrome OS.
  • Advanced options screen for tablet setup.
  • New setting for more accurate time zone detection.

Google also add some new features to the Enterprise version of Chrome and it includes:

  • Enterprise policy for keeping account sign-in consistent between browser and device.
  • Kiosk mode now supports mix mode for external displays, extended and mirroring mode simultaneously.
  • Automatic Re-Enrollment for managed devices.
  • Support device-wide certificates in smal SSO sign-in.

If you own a Chrome device, then you should be expecting the new Chrome OS 65 in the next few days.
