Continued Conversation rolled out for Google Assistant

If you are a daily user of Google Assistant, then you are probably sick of saying “okay Google” every time you want to ask your assistant for something, it is pretty boring, sometimes you would rather search for something by yourself than asking your assistant again, I mean come on how is it an assistant if you have to put so much effort into it to help you.

But Google was working on a solution for this problem, and they announced back in 2018 I/O conference, a new feature that would let you have a continuous conversation with your Google Assistant, and now the new feature is rolling out for users.

The new feature which Google called it Continued Conversation is coming out to Google Home, Google Home Mini, and Google Home Max, unfortunately, the Google Assistant on Android devices is excluded for this new update.

So now instead of saying “Hey Google” before each question, you can have a more natural conversation, you can easily ask your assistant about the weather today, and then follow your question up with another question about the weather tomorrow for example, and then maybe asking it to add coffee to your shopping list.

In order for the new feature to work, the assistant will stay active for a longer period of time, enough for you to ask the follow up question, once your done with your question you can just say “Stop” or “Thank you” for the assistant to stop, or it will stop automatically after it detects that you are no longer talking to the assistant. You will still have to activate your assistant by the hotword “Okay Google”, or “Hey Google”, or by pressing the physical button.

For some users, this will raise a lot of concerns about privacy, and how can you know if the assistant is not talking to you all the time, remember the Alexa scandal?. Well, Google is rolling the new feature as an optional feature, so it’s up to you if you want to activate it or not. If you would like to activate the Continued Conversation all you have to do is to go to the setting in the Google Assistant app then preferences then toggle the Continued Conversation option.

With this new feature, we can actually say that we have a real assistant that we can depend on, now your conversations with Google Assistant will be as natural as possible.
