DBL’s The Wand Tonearm now available in the UK as well

Design Build Listen, a New Zealand based company stands behind designing and creating different components and even kits that serve for the DIY (do it yourself) audio community and provide equipment of high-quality. The highlight of DBL’s selection is The Wand Tonearm intended for turntables which are hand-made for each order and provides excellent sound for its users. The company is further expanding on the world market making The Wand Tonearm available in the UK, among an already wide variety of countries you can find it in.

The Wand Tonearm has a simple design that was awarded. But, it is not designed in such way just for the looks, but only features elements that contribute to the great sound it provides. The large-diameter of the arm tube made out of carbon-fiber makes it stiffer than it is the case with more conventionally designed arms. It comes in three lengths, 9.5 inches, 10.3 inches and 12-inch version. The arm is cut at a very sharp angle where the cartridge is located at a fixed angle, but the overhand is adjustable. One of the praised features of The Wand Tonearm is that the resonance it creates is at the bare minimum. This is due to the fact that the mass is close to the pivot point, as close as possible.

The Wand Tonearm comes in three series, Classic series being the simplest one of them all with a slightly different mounting process but still offering excellent sound for the price. Furthermore, there is the Plus series that has more added features to the basics of the Classic such as arm lock and reduced vibrations, while at the top is the Master series. The Wand Tonearm Master is the most complex of the three with premium features such as silver finish, upgraded wiring, and among other features, there is also the external damping facility that is not present in the previous two layers.

Talking about compatibility, The Wand Tonearm is compatible with most cartridges, both high and low compliance ones and it will work well. Some brands that are on option are Lyra, Decca London, Grado and other similar ones. Regarding the compatibility to the turntables, The Wand Tonearm requires a round hole for mounting on the turntable itself, between 23mm and 30. An additional concern is that the tonearm might be too high than some turntable lids are so be sure to keep that in mind. As The Wand Tonearm is intended for DIY audiophiles, Design Build Listen has kept in mind that installation might not be as simple for all users so they provide you with a detailed guide as well as step by step videos to keep you on the right track.

When it comes to price, it all depends on the length and the series of The Wand Tonearm you choose. For the Classic series, the price varies from approximately $1170 to $1560 depending on the length you decide on, while for the Plus series ranges from $1430 to $1820. The Wand Tonearm Master series is priced at $2600 for the 9.5-inch model, while the 12-inch model is around $3378, from now all available on the UK market.
