Disney’s upcoming streaming service has Marvel and Star Wars as exclusives

It looks like both Netflix and Amazon might be in a bit of trouble, as Disney’s rumored streaming service is looking to be a strong contender to take some of their shares when it releases sometime in 2019.

According to a report by CNBC, 2018 will be the last year for Netflix to show Marvel and Star Wars content on its network, as Disney streaming service is keeping the rights for these trademarks exclusive to itself. This means that Star Wars: Episode IX, Captain Marvel and more future films will be only shown on Disney’s, while Netflix is saying goodbye to these series with Star Wars: The Last Jedi release Summer 2018.

The decision to do so is undoubtedly a low punch for Netflix, after investing so much in Marvel original series like Jessica Jones and Daredevil. As for Disney, keeping the rights exclusive for in-house service is a sure way to boost subscribers count immensely when it’s out. However, an important factor is going to be the pricing strategy, which should be comparable to what consumers pay for Netflix and Amazon in order to succeed.

Disney’s video streaming service will initially have all things produced by the giant label, as well as Marvel and Star Wars movies and series. It’s worth mentioning that the new service will be released first internationally before landing on the US soil to clear out some copyright paperwork and such.

The dream of having one service for all TV shows now seems even more distant with these news. It looks like we’ll have to remember multiple account credentials for a while longer!
