Everything we know about Google Pixel Watch so far

Wearables, in particular smartwatches, are becoming more popular and most of the tech giants have already released their own models like Samsung’s Galaxy Watch and Apple Watch. 2019 seems to be the year when Google joins the two companies with a rumored Pixel Watch. We are bringing you what is known so far about it, from the name to the specs, and even potential release period.

Google has announced that it is planning on updating the Wear OS apps and overall improving its quality, perhaps before the big Pixel Watch launch. The new policy that was set by the end of summer last year is a bit more strict towards the developers as they have to provide screenshots of the app in action. By this process, Google is aiming to create apps that are supported on different screen shapes, including both round, square and those with a “chin”. Of course, the screenshots won’t be available in Play Store until the Wear OS app is officially in testing or production. We are excited to see what Google has in mind for the shape of the smartwatch and its interface.

So far, there is not a lot of leaks on what the Pixel Watch might look like but it will probably be smaller than most other smartwatches due to smaller components, including the processor that is yet to be released. At the same time, Google is probably going to add a lot of features such as heart rate monitoring and GPS in order for it to be competitive among other smartwatches on the market. Besides this, we can be almost certain that the watch is going to have Google Assistant integrated as Google has been working hard to improve its voice assistant and add it to many devices.

What is expected from Google’s Pixel Watch is a flagship quality hardware. There is probably going to be two versions of the watch, as it is a case with most popular smartwatches, that is WiFi and LTE versions. There is a chance there will be size variants of the watch as well, based on the German website WinFuture that reported that there will be three different models of Pixel Watch, “Ling”, “Triton” and “Sardine”. If the report is true, that will also mean that the watch will have at least 1GB of RAM but it is not certain would this be the case for all models. Moreover, when talking about the operating system, the watch will most probably run either the stock version or Wear OS or version with special features.

Google did indeed confirm that there is a smartwatch coming soon but they have not released the official name yet. Name Pixel Watch seems to fit well with the rest of the brand so it would not be a surprise if it actually appears to be right. Unfortunately, there is still no date at which we can expect the Google Pixel Watch to be released. Experts are predicting it is going to happen sometime this year, maybe even at Google’s annual hardware event in October, but we are yet to see.
