Fiio Introduces L27 Cable for WM-devices

Over the last 2 years or so Fiio has consistently been striving to broaden their product portfolio. This includes not only refreshing and updated iterations of their existing products, but also to offer new solutions to the market. Among these solutions are a wide range of cables for headphones/IEMs, as well as interconnect cables. Now, they’ve come out with the L27 cable.

What is the L27?

The L27 is meant to serve as an interconnect to carry a digital signal between the 22-pin WM-port found on Sony Walkman devices and external DACs that have a 5-pin microUSB port (such as Fiio’s Q1 Mark II). Measuring in at only 60mm (2.36 inches), the L27 is a no fuss cable that’ll add minimal bulk to your favourite portable audio stack.

Fiio claims that the L27 will work with a whole host of Sony WM players, including:
A15, A16, A17, A25, A27, NW-A35/A45/A46, NW-WM1A/Z, and NW-ZX1/ZX2/ZX100/ZX300A.

It seems it’s not all sunshine and roses, though. Whilst the Chord Mojo does utilise a 5-pin microUSB connection, the L27 won’t work to connect the Mojo to some WM-devices.

Thus far Fiio have stated the the L27 will work with the Mojo if connected to the ZX1, ZX2, ZX100, A15, A16, A17, A25, and A27. But, it seems that a connection to the Mojo won’t be possible if using the A35, A45, A46, NW-WM1A/Z, or ZX300A. No indication seems to have been given to suggest that the L27 might work sometime in the future with the A35, A45, A46, NW-WM1A/Z, or ZX300A, but perhaps a software update from Sony’s side might make this a reality.

However, Fiio have suggested that this cable should work correctly in connecting the NW-A15, A16, A17, A25, A27, NW-A35/A45/A46, NW-WM1A/Z, and NW-ZX1/ZX2/ZX100/ZX300A to Fiio’s own Q1 Mark II and the upcoming Q5, Oppo’s HA-2 and HA-2SE, as well as Sony’s own PHA-1A, PHA-2A, and PHA-3 external DACs.
