FiiO Unveils New Quad-driver FH5 Hybrid IEMs

FiiO are working hard to expand their product portfolio, and one of their more recent range of products are a number of in-ear monitors to suite many budgets and needs. Their F9-series are/were quite popular, and so the next step was to offer an even more intricate offering – enter the FH5.

Meet The FH5

Whilst the design of the FH5’s housing might seem more akin to that of a fully custom-made IEM, it’s still entirely intended to be a universal-fit product. FiiO have employed numerous striking design elements for the FH5, including a few key choices that have been carried over from previous products. The “ripple” design on the faceplate of each earpiece definitely draws inspiration from a similar design element that was used on the F9-series. But, FiiO states that they also drew inspiration directly from the “streamliner vehicles” of the early 20th-century.

Under the hood FiiO have incorporated a bunch of technologies and approaches that they’ve not used before.
First and foremost is the fact that the FH5 is their very first quad-driver IEM. Moreover, this is not just a quad-BA setup, but instead uses 3 BA drivers in conjunction with a 10mm dynamic driver.

FiiO went another step further and, instead of directing the sound of each driver into the same sound tube, they created a separate sound tube for the low frequencies, mids, and highs.

According to the published frequency response graph we can see that the FH5 offers a mildly v-shaped response. There’s a particular emphasis put on the very low end of the low frequencies, as well as a few peaks around the 8kHz region (similar to what we’ve seen from the F9-series), and in fact the overall response also looks very similar to that of the FH1.

Pricing & Availability

The FH5 will be FiiO’s most expensive IEMs to date, with an indicated MSRP of $260, and are expected to hit the market some time in July.
