Focal reveals improved Scala and Maestro Utopia II EVO speakers at Munich
First two models from the enhanced Utopia III Evo production line have been revealed by Focal with improved drivers, crossovers, and finishes. Meet the new Scala and Maestro, the latest Focal devices from Munich High End Show 2017.
The French audio giant announced Utopia III Evo as a replacement to the already successful Utopia III series of devices, starting with Scala and Maestro. Both speakers come with Focal’s latest sound inventions like TMD suspension and NIC.
TMD provides a linear frequency response curve between 1 and 4kHz, effectively reducing distortion as much as possible in this range. According to Focal, the mid-range register benefits from remarkable neutrality. As for NIC, short for Neutral Inductance Circuit, the technology provides stabilization for the magnetic field to avoid harmonic distortion and intermodulation.
Both devices add new bi-amplification options, separating bass from mid-range/treble registers allowing the personalization of sound by tweeking those registers. Crossovers have also been improved, separating them from each other on the interior to eliminate magnetic disturbance.
Both Scala and Maestro include three floor speakers and come in new colors: Metallic blue, ash grey and British racing green, as well as the classical black and white colors. The models will be available by August this year.
