GoPro Fusion receives a big firmware update

GoPro has released a new update to the 360 GoPro Fusion camera technology to support virtual reality. The new update includes a set of features that raise the value of the famous camera and place it in the category of premium cameras in general.

The new 360-degree GoPro Fusion camera upgrade increases the quality of video shooting to 5.8K instead of the 5.2K quality previously supported by the camera. The result is a 5.6K output after the two hemispheres are combined.

The move comes from GoPro to catch up with the development of 360 cameras after Rylo increased the quality of video cameras to 5.8K at the end of 2018, raising the user’s expectations for these cameras.

In addition to enhancing the quality of video shooting, the GoPro Fusion update includes video support at 24 fps, which was never supported. With this update, the camera now supports the cinematic standard frame rate. The update also includes support for shooting RAW images in timelapse mode and night mode instead of supporting JPG only..

GoPro also unveiled a new update to the GoPro Fusion Studio suite of applications that includes support for new resolution and new frame rates, as well as a series of improvements to video stabilization, improved quality of virtual reality images and clips taken from videos with different exposure settings. The update also includes support for splitting long videos into chapters to decrease import time.

The latest updates to the GoPro Fusion 2.0 OS and Fusion Studio 1.4 are both available in a test version and can be downloaded through the official GoPro Website, which also includes new updates for GoPro VR software for Premiere and After Effect applications from Adobe.
