Hidizs Announces The AP60 Ver 2

If you were a fan (as we were) of the original AP60 mini DAP, you’re gonna love the AP60 Ver 2.

The first AP60 was a true little fighter, offering fantastic features in a very compact package. This 2nd iteration of the AP60 seems to take everything that was great about the first AP60 and turn it up to 11.

1. Staying True to the Design

No specs with regards to dimensions have been announced, but judging from the pictures, it seems that the AP60 Ver 2 will have the same shape and dimensions as the original. Having said that, Hidizs does seem to have gone the extra mile in updating and refining the AP60 Ver 2’s design.
Curved 2.5D glass (front and back, it seems) and a body cut from a single piece of aluminium will give the AP60 Ver 2 a more premium feel. This is in stark contrast to the all-plastic design of the first AP60.

2. New Controls?

An interesting change seems to be what Hidizs has done with the control buttons on the front panel of the device.  Hidizs says that they’re physical buttons, as opposed to the capacitive touch buttons that were used on the first AP60. This is going to be a rather major change to focus on, as on of the biggest complaints with the first AP60 was that it was difficult to use the capacitive touch panel due to its small size and lack of haptic feedback.

3. I Can See Clearly Now…

The other major complaint about the first AP60 was its relatively poor display, particularly the outdoor legibility. Seeing as Hidizs proudly boasts a new 2.0″ IPS HD display for the AP60 Ver 2, hopefully this issue has been fixed, or at least greatly improved upon.

4. Get Linked!

Saving the best for last, a totally new (and very welcomed) addition is the Hibylink functionality.
We’ve seen this feature on the Shanling M2s, as well as the Cayin N3. If you’re unfamiliar, Hibylink allows you to use your compatible smartphone as a remote control for the DAP. Essentially, this gives the DAP a remotely operated touch interface. Pretty cool, huh?

No announcements have been made so far in terms of pricing, but if Hidizs could manage to keep it at the $90 mark of the original, that would make the AP60 Ver 2 an incredibly competitive device.
