Hidizs Launches AP60 Pro On Massdrop

When Hidizs brought out the original AP60, ti was quite different from any other device out in the market. What set it apart was its bang-for-buck value, especially considering the features it packed. Then they updated it and released the AP60 II which mainly sported an upgrade in build materials.
Now, in what seems to be a Massdrop-exclusive product, Hidizs has brought out the AP60 Pro.

Meet The AP60 Pro

The first thing to notice, just form the look of the AP60 Pro, is that Hidizs did make some slight changes to the design of the device (compared to previous iterations). The corners are more rounded now, giving it more of a “mini AP200” look. In fact, that’s not the only similarity between the AP60 Pro and AP200.

Under the hood, there are a few key audio-hardware upgrades. The AKM 4452VN DAC chip that was used in the AP60 II and original AP60 has now been replaced with a ESS9118C chip. Yup, that’s the same chip as is used in the AP200, except that the AP200 uses 2 of them. This means that, where the AP60 and AP60 II were limited to 192kHz/24-bit PCM files, the AP60 Pro can decode up to 384kHz/32-bit.

Other sonic improvements have also been made, such as an improved SNR figure of 118db (up from 109dB), and a channel separation of 113dB (up from 106dB).

Pricing and Availability

Unfortunately, at the time of writing this article, the drop has already ended, but whilst it was available, the AP60 Pro was being sold for $79.99, which is a discount of more than 30% over the regular AP60 II and nearly 50% off from the estimated MSRP of the AP60 Pro. If you’re a Massdrop member, you can head over to this page and request for the drop to happen again in the future.
