Everything HUAWEI Announced at MWC 2018

Earlier today 25th of February, Huawei held a press conference in Barcelona, right before the start of the “Mobile World Congress” tomorrow. As it was expected Huawei didn’t announce any new flagships, with its two new flagships “Huawei P20” expected in March, and the “Mate 11” later in October. Instead, Huawei announced its new Matebook laptop and some other new products we will try to review them in this article.

Huawei Matebook X Pro

The CEO of Huawei started the conference by launching the new “MateBook X Pro”, which he said it’s “the world’s first FullView touch-screen notebook” with 91% screen-to-body ratio.

The new notebook is powered by the 8th generation Intel Core i7 processor, 8 or 16GB of RAM, 512gGB of SSD storage, and runs on Windows 10.

One of the coolest features of the new notebook is that it has a pop-up camera, the camera is hidden inside the keyboard, which allows the screen to be that big. This new feature is also useful for privacy; you don’t need to put a sticker on your camera anymore.

The design of the MateBook X Pro is quite elegant, with a metal unibody design, diamond-cut edges, and a sandblast finish. This gives the laptop the luxurious look and feeling. The screen supports multi-touch with Gorilla glass protection to keep it from being scratched.

On each side of the keyboard, there are 2 stereo speakers, which gives the X Pro a really good sound system. Another cool feature is the built-in fingerprint sensor on the power button, that would allow you to turn on your laptop and login with only one touch, and Huawei said it takes only 7.8 seconds for the laptop to be turned on from cold startup.

Battery life is up to 12 hours, with a fast-charging feature, the X Pro can go up to 6 hours’ usage with only 30 minutes of charging.

The X Pro comes with 1 USB-A, 2 USB-C, and a headphones jack. To increase connectivity, the new notebook supports wireless sharing across Huawei devices.

Huawei MediaPad M5

Huawei announced its new tablet “MediaPad M5” and “M5 Pro”. the difference between the two devices is the size and some other small features. Both devices have the metallic unibody which makes them look more elegant, and both of them are available in either “Space Gray” or “Champagne Gold”. The M5 is 8.4 inches, while the bigger version is 10.8 inches.

You can find only a USB-C port on both devices, this is used for charging, data transfer, and for the headphones. That means that you can’t listen to music while charging your device.

Also on both devices, there is a micro-SD card slot, to improve the internal storage if needed. The smaller version comes with 32,64,128GB. While the bigger one doesn’t support the 32GB storage.

We can find 3 gold contacts on the edge of the device, for the keyboard case, that gives you “a full keyboard experience” Huawei said.

Both devices run Android Oreo 8.0, with Kirin 960 octa-core processor, 4GB of RAM, 13MP for the main camera, and 8MP for the front one.
