IFA 2018, when is it? and what to expect?

IFA or Internationale Funkausstellung is the biggest tech exhibition in whole Europe, most of the tech giants gather together every year in the German capital Berlin to make their biggest announcement, and many AV and HiFi flagships are being revealed every year. This year is no difference, IFA 2018 is starting at the end of the month, and it is expected to be one of the biggest tech exhibitions in recent years. While the business starts on the 29th of August when the press releases start to be held, the exhibition will be open for public from the 31st of August until the 5th of September. So what should you expect from this huge tech event? We will break it down for you in this article.

Samsung at IFA 2018

Through the last few years, Samsung has used the IFA as the launch pad for one of its true flagships the Galaxy Note, this year, however, the Korean tech giant is breaking the routine, the company has already sent invitation to a press conference in New York City on the 9th of August for the launch of the Galaxy Note 9, alongside with the Galaxy Watch.

So we can’t expect any new smartphone from Samsung this year, but that’s not it, Samsung might unveil some new 4k, and 8k OLED TVs, yes we can totally expect a new 8k screen during the IFA show this year after the announcement earlier this year about two 8k TV ranges from Samsung.

We don’t know how will Samsung surprise us, maybe the next generation of the Frame TV? Or even a new QLED TV?  We can also expect some new smart gadgets that will compete with other smart products in the market.

Sony at IFA 2018

If you follow Sony, then you probably know that every year during the IFA we hear a lot of big news from Sony, last year the company reviled a lot of new products including a walkman, wireless noise-canceling headphones, and a Google Assistant smart speaker. So maybe this year we hear about some second generations from these products. Also, we shouldn’t forget all the new smartphones that we are expecting from Sony, we may take the first look on the Xperia XZ3, and the Xperia XZ3 Compact, let alone Sony’s OLED screens that are expected to make the first appearance during the IFA 2018 show this year.

LG at IFA 2018

We won’t be anticipating the future if we say that LG will show some of its OLED screens in Berlin this year as well, LG did that for the past 3 years, and this year is not an exception I think, especially with the new five-star OLED55C8PLA screen.

Last year, the company revealed its V30, the first smartphone with MQA audio support, and it is most likely that LG will release the LG V40 at the IFA 2018. Also, we heard that LG is preparing to release two new smartwatches, so hopefully we will get to see them during the show as well.

LG’s CEO Jo Seong-Jin and the company’s Chief Technology Officer Dr. I.P. Park are holding a joint keynote to outline LG’s strategy for their ThinQ AI platform in future devices, so we are expecting a demo of the new G7 ThinQ smartphone and maybe the WK7 ThinQ wireless speaker.

The company will probably show some other products like smart fridges, and hopefully, we will see other new products.

Panasonic at IFA 2018

Panasonic is always there at IFA, and we can be more than sure that this year we will see something big from the company because 2018 marks the 100th anniversary of Panasonic.

We have seen some effort being put into OLED screens and we are expecting to see something new in this field or at least to see the new TX-55FZ802 OLED screen. We will also have a look on the newly announced 4K Blu-ray player.

Last year at IFA, Panasonic released the SC-GA10 smart speaker, a really good speaker that will give you high-quality sound alongside with a built-in Google Assistant and a Chromecast, so let’s hope to see the second generation of this speaker, or maybe something new.

The company will hold a press conference at the IFA 2018, but we don’t really know what to expect.

A lot more to expect!!

As the biggest tech show in Europe, the IFA 2018 will be the stage for a lot of tech giants, the show will last for five busy days where we will be able to see a lot of new products from big companies like Philips that announced its multi-year partnership with Bowers & Wilkins, and both companies promised us to see the first result of this partnership at IFA 2018.

Sharp is usually present at IFA with a big set of 4K and 8K screens, and we can expect to see a lot of new smartphones and new laptops with companies like Huawei, Motorola, Asus, Toshiba, Acer, Lenovo, and Razer, the show will turn into a smartphones show if all those companies will release new flagships in Berlin.

A lot of AV companies will be there as well, we can expect some new HiFi products with companies like Technics which has used IFA previously to announce new products, Bang&Olufsen is holding a press conference but we have no clue on what they might be announcing this year, maybe a new speakers, or an updated version of the BeoVision TV, or maybe both.

We will be covering this huge event here at Samma3a tech so tune in at the end of this month so you can see all the new products from all these companies.
