IKEA Place app is now available for Android phones

We’ve all struggled while trying buy furniture, we had a lot of arguments whether this piece of furniture suits that place or not. Now with the new app from IKEA, you can say bye to all this struggle. IKEA Place the new augmented reality app from IKEA allows you to choose a piece of furniture and see how does it look like in your living room by placing its 3D version on your phones live show. The app is not completely new, it was launched last year, but it was exclusively for Apple devices and that’s because the app was powered by Cupertino’s augmented reality platform for phones called ARKit. But after the launch of Google’s new platform ARCore, which is the Android equivalent of ARKit, the app can run now on Android devices. ARCore gives Android devices the power to run apps that can insert 3D objects into a live show image without any special equipments.

To download the new app on your phone, first you need to download ARCore platform app, without the platform app, you can’t run any AR app on your Android phone. The platform is quite new, and still doesn’t support all Android devices, that means that the new IKEA’s app won’t work on all devices. For now, the app works on Google Pixel phones, Samsung Galaxy S7, S8, S9, Asus Zenfone AR, LG V30, V30 Plus, and OnePlus 5, and 5T. However, Google promised that the new ARCore platform will support more and more devices by time.

The app will allow you to insert any piece of furniture in any place, in your home, in the street, basically anywhere. You need to scan the area that you like to place the furniture in, after that, you can choose furniture from more than 3000 IKEA products that are available in the app. In addition to the launch on Android, IKEA added a new feature to its app, and that is Visual Search. The new feature gives you the ability to find any piece of furniture in IKEA’s catalog, all you have to do is to point your camera on anything grabs your attention, and the app will find it in IKEA’s inventory.

Finally, Ikea has launched a new gameshow series called Matchers Keepers. You can play with your friends and family by collecting pieces of furniture over three rounds for a place in your home, to gain points for getting the matching items.
