Apple announces a new redesigned bezel-less iPad Pro

Apple’s new iPad Pro is probably the largest design overhaul the iPad lineup has experienced since it was first released in 2010. The new device just released in Apples hardware event embraces the 2018 bezel-less design, removing the home button and stretching the screen edge-to-edge. It got rid of Touch-ID in favor of Face-ID, and is supposed to be more powerful and able to compete with the Microsoft’s Surface lineup and Google’s Pixel Slate.

The new iPad Pro comes in two different screen sizes as usual: 11-inches, up from 10.5 last year, and 12.9 inches, same as last year but in a much smaller body and a higher screen to body ratio. Of course, with the home button gone, the new iPad Pro will adjust to use the gesture navigation we have seen in the iPhone X. The display is what Apple calls a Liquid Retina Display, that utilizes the company’s ProMotion technology for smooth fluid display performance.

Many of the features that debuted with the iPhone X return in the new iPad Pro. Face ID with its TrueDepth camera setup. However, with the bigger screen and the larger bezels compared to the iPhone X, XS and XR, the iPad comes notch-free. FaceID on the iPad will work despite which way the device is oriented, whether it is on a table or with a keyboard stand attached. Unfortunately, the 3.5m headphone jack has been removed from the new iPad Pro. Users will have to either use wireless headphones or use a dongle adapter that is not included in the box and will cost $9.

On the inside, this is by far the highest performing iPad Pro we’ve seen. The device comes with Apple’s new A12X Bionic chip, featuring an 8-core CPU and a 7-core GPU, leading to a 35% faster single core performance and a 90% better performance with multi-core functions. The company said that “The iPad Pro delivers Xbox One S class graphics performance in a package that is much smaller.” In other areas, the new iPad Pro will have wider stereo sound, a 12-megapixel camera with 4K 60fps video recording capability. The battery according to Apple will last about 10 hours of continuous use.

There is also a new $129 Apple Pencil, which sports a new wireless charging through attaching it to the iPad via magnets. There are also new gestures that are customizable for developer and third-party apps. There is also a new keyboard kickstand called the Smart Keyboard Folio allowing users to change between two viewing angles. It is more expensive than its predecessor at $179.

The new devices will be released on WEdnesday, November 7th. The smaller version will start at $799 while the larger one will sell at $999. It is available for pre-order now through Apple’s website.
