iTunes Store dropped from Old Windows, and Apple TV devices

On Friday 23rd Apple published a “support document” announcing that it will drop the support for iTunes store from some “old devices” starting from May 25th. by old devices, we mean first-generation Apple TV, and also all PC devices that still running Windows XP or Vista.

This will happen due to introducing some new security changes by Apple that will prevent older devices from accessing the iTunes store. Back in 2015, Apple announced that the original Apple TV is an “obsolete product” and it will not support any new updates or changes.

Users of the second-generation will still be able to use the iTunes store and all devices will be updated to work with the new changes.

As for PC users, both Windows XP and Vista are not supported by Microsoft anymore, therefore they will not be updated to use the latest version of iTunes. If you have an older Windows version, you will still be able to use the older iTunes app but, you can’t make any new purchases, or even re-download your previous purchases. You need at least Windows 7 or later to use iTunes 12.
