Apple announces a new Macbook Air with Retina display

In its October hardware event, Apple announced the new MacBook Air. The Air lineup has been waiting for an upgrade for a while now as the last generation suffered from low screen resolution with its non-Retina display and overall lower performance. The sales of the MacBook Air also plunged after Apple introduced the 12-inch MacBook. But today, the MacBook Air is back and better than ever.

The new MacBook Air is the first total overhaul of the lineup. It features a 13.3 edge-to-edge Retina display, 50% thinner bezels and a revamped design that is very similar to the standard MacBook. It has two USB-C ports and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Keeping up with the Air name, the new laptop weighs just 2.75 pounds down from the 2.96 pounds of the previous MacBook Air models.

On the inside, the new MacBook Air comes with an 8th Generation Intel dual-core CPU with integrated graphics, up to 16GB of RAM and 1.5 TB SSD. Despite the lower graphics capacity, the device is compatible with external graphics processors through one of the USB-C ports, which you can also use to connect a 5K external monitor.

Overall, the device is very much reminiscent of the newer MacBook Pro models in terms of design and functionality. It also sports a Touch-ID fingerprint reader for security, just like the MacBook Pro lineup and the touch-pad has been enlarged and equipped with built-in force sensors to have more control. The base model comes with 8GB of RAM, 128GB SSD and a core-i5 processor clocked at 1/6 GHz. It goes on sale today at $1,199 and is made of 100% recycled aluminium.
