McIntosh RS200, The Next-generation Loudspearker System

McIntosh is coming with us with the company’s next generation home audio wireless speaker. The McIntosh RS200 Wireless Loudspeaker System. Designed to fulfill the needs of modern music lovers, this speaker comes with everything you might need to stream music from any handheld device, most music streaming services, music stored on your computer, or any other possible source of music. Other than streaming music, you can connect the RS200 to your TV in order to enjoy a better sound quality than what can the TV speakers offer.

The McIntosh RS200 offers a total of 650 Watts of power that runs 8 drivers consisting of two 4” x 6” woofers, four 2” midranges and two 3/4” tweeters. If this is still not enough, a subwoofer output is included to connect an external powered subwoofer to further enhance low frequencies.  Due to its unique design, the RS200 can be placed in many locations. The sonic characteristics of these places can be different, that’s why it’s equipped with a 3-position EQ switch allows you to set the EQ based on the room and the user’s listening preferences.

Because we are living in the streaming age, the McIntoch RS200 comes with many streaming options that would allow users to enjoy their favorite music on any streaming service they choose.

One of the streaming options is Apple AirPlay 2 which is an Apple technology designed to control home audio systems and speakers in any room – with a tap or by just asking Siri – right from an iPhone, iPad, HomePod, or Apple TV. It offers multi-room audio, Siri voice control, and enhanced playback. The RS 200 is also an Amazon Alexa enabled speaker, you can control your music playback, turn the volume up and down, and use many other voice commands by simply talking to Alexa. It is worth mentioning that the RS 200 doesn’t have any listening abilities, and it completely depends on an external Amazon Echo or any other Alexa powered device for voice control.

There are many other streaming options like Bluetooth 5.0 with support for AAC, Qualcomm aptX HD for hi-res playback, and Qualcomm’s aptX Low Latency for improved audio transmission speed to deliver sound that’s synchronized with visual media. It also has the support of DTS Play-Fi whole-home wireless audio, and DLNA.

Play-Fi from DTS has built-in interfaces for many leading streaming services including Spotify, Amazon Prime Music, Pandora, Qobuz, SiriusXM, and Tidal. The RS200 will allow you to save up to four of these streaming services using the preset buttons on the top of the speaker. once configured, you can quickly play the saved streaming services directly from the cloud without needing a mobile device by simply tapping the preset buttons.

While this new speaker is focused on streaming options. It also has many other non-streaming options that you can use. The RS200 has an audio-only HDMI input for connecting any TV that has an ARC (Audio Return Channel) output. There’s also an optical input for connecting other TVs or audio devices, such as CD players. There’s even a USB Type-B input that works with Mac or Windows computers. A 3.5mm front-mounted AUX input is also included which can be used to connect any analog music source such as turntables.
