Meze Audio, a company mainly focused on building high quality audiophile hardware, announced that the first isodynamic hybrid array headphones dubbed the Empyrean, will be uncovered for the first time in Munich later this May, alongside other some new high-end IEM models.
The announcement included information about the teased Empyrean headphones and the RAI In-Ear monitors, after a lot of positive feedback from audiophiles and audio fanatics from around the world in the past few months.
The Empyrean isodynamic hybrid array headphones:
These headphones come as a result of the cooperation between Meze Audio and Rinaro; an experienced researcher and developer of planar magnetics. The combined efforts of the creative minds behind the two companies took form in the shape of The Empyrean headphones, with the aesthetic and user-centered design approach from Meze, and the planar technology from Rinaro.
Rinaro collaborated with Meze to create the new MZ3 3 Isodynamic Hybrid Array Driver exclusively for Meze Audio, with over 30 years of experience, Rinaro, a previously USSR founded research group that worked on planar technology since the 80s, is aiming to set a new standard for the planar magnetic audio world.
The MZ3 combines individual switchback and spiral shaped voice coils in the one driver, their individual unique benefits allow sound to be targeted with accuracy around the natural shape of the ear. This combination has allowed for an increased exposure of direct sound wave frequencies over the 10kHz range and improved imaging and localization by decreasing the impact of short wave time delays caused by diffused field reflections.
Another cool thing about the Empyrean is the Isomagnetic ear cup attachment which utilizes the magnetic field generated by the hybrid array driver to hold the ear cup in place whilst improving the efficiency of the driver by 1db or 12%; This is a result of targeting the magnetic field back into the driver.
The innovative planar driver aside, the Empyrean headphones come with an aesthetic design that focuses on comfort and fit, the Empyrean only weights 400gm the headband is made from carbon fibers and exoskeleton is made from sculpted aluminum.
The RAI In-Ear monitors:
RAI is an IEM that uses the premium Penta Hybrid Driver Technology. RAI incorporates a dynamic driver with two dual BA drivers, utilizing 5 way technology to deliver a perfect harmonic sound with a natural tone and a balanced sound signature. RAI covers a wide frequency range from 5Hz – 44 kHz with ultra clear sound and a strong bass extension.
The completely metallic housing design in the RAI IEMs creates the perfect space for the sound to move freely, it also allows the user to wear the IEMs comfortably with a perfect fit. Housing made from full metal CNC aluminum makes the IEMs look more durable.
RAI IEMs comes with MMCX interchangeable cables, and it offers three cables out of the box; one 3.5mm Rhodium plated, a 2.5mm TRRS balanced and a 4.4 Pentaconn. Meze also uncovered some of the other technical specifications which included:
- quency Range: 5Hz – 44kHz
- Impedance: 20Ω
- Sensitivity: 112dB
- Max Input Power: 30mW
- Distortion: <1%
We’ll sure see more of these new products Meze is planning to release soon this May.
