MWC 2019: Huawei Mate X, MateBook Pro, And MateBook 14

MWC 2019 is here and we are witnessing a lot of new ideas and products in the world of smartphones from all companies and brands. Perhaps the two major things for this year would be the first 5G smartphones and the new trend of foldable phones that started with the launch of Samsung Fold. well, Samsung isn’t the only company with a new foldable phone. Its strong rival, Huawei also announced its new Huawei Mate X, that combines both trends of 2019, 5G support, and the ability to fold. The Mate X wasn’t the only product from Huawei during the show. The tech giant also announced the new generation of its MateBook X Pro alongside with the MateBook 14. Here’s everything announced by Huawei in MWC 2019.

To start with the biggest announcement, the Huawei Mate X has an 8-inch wraparound OLED display, the phone is as thin as 11mm, it also supports 5G networks, Kirin 980 processor is what’s running the device, with a 4500 mAh battery.

Both the Samsung Fold and the Huawei Mate X are foldable devices, but the difference between the two devices is that while the Samsung Fold has the widescreen on the inside of the device, the Mate X has it on the outside. We can say that Mate X has three screens. while folded, it has the main 6.6 inches screen on the front, with a smaller yet a tall 6.4 display on the rear side of the phone. The second screen would allow you to take selfies using the main camera, as well as sharing the content of the main display with the person sitting on the other side. Once you unfold the phone, the device would transform into an 8-inch tablet.

The thickest side of the device is a grip that has the cameras, the LED flashlight, alongside with a latch that will hold the phone while folded. On the side of that grip, you can find the power button combined with a fingerprint scanner. The grip side of the device is 11mm thin, while the other side when unfolded is as thin as 5.4 mm which is really impressive.

As we mentioned earlier, the new smartphone has a 4,500mAh battery, which is quite big, but we still don’t know how would that work with daily usage. Huawei’s new device comes with a 55W SuperCharge charger which will top the battery up to 85 percent in 30 minutes only.

Away from the Mate X, Huawei also announced the new version of its MateBook Pro laptop. The new laptop isn’t anything new comparing to the first MateBook Pro that was released last year. But still, the MateBook Pro had the best combination of performance, battery, ports, and weight.

The new Huawei MateBook Pro is also a 13.9-inch laptop that has a slightly faster processor, an upgraded graphics card, a better Thunderbolt 3 port, and the option to go for 1TB of storage. Besides that, the only other difference would be the Huawei logo at the back of the laptop which was the full logo in the last year’s version while now its only Huawei’s wordmark.

The other new laptop from Huawei is the Huawei MateBook 14 is pretty similar to the Pro version. But it has a 14-inch touchscreen instead of a 13.9-inch in the pro. It also has a larger and heavier body, and it comes with storage options up to 512GB only. The new Thunderbolt 3 port is missing from the MateBook 14. Other than that, both laptops are the same.

This was everything that Huawei announced during its press conference in Barcelona MWC 2019. A revolutionary foldable smartphone that will compete and probably win against the Samsung Fold, and two new laptops.
