MWC 2019: LG V50 phone features 5G and a Dual Screen

As expected, LG was yet another brand at MWC 2019 in Barcelona, Spain that announced a new smartphone that will offer 5G network support. LG V50 is basically a new version of the LG V40 that was released last fall, but with a few updated features and an interesting Dual Screen accessory instead of the foldable design presented by companies like Huawei and Samsung. Besides this, LG also announced the new LG G8 that uses vein formation for unlocking instead of fingerprints or face recognition.

The biggest update on the LG V50 is the addition of 5G support that is very easy to notice as the company added a glowing 5G logo on the backside of the device. Besides this, other improved features include a larger battery as 5G uses more power and a new Snapdragon 855 processor as the phone will probably feature Qualcomm X50 5G modem. Finally, to support the new processor and battery, LG added a new cooling system to prevent overheating.

The design of the LG V50 is very similar to that of the V40 but it is a bit heavier and thicker. LG justifies this as an intentional move in order to release the phone as soon as possible. On the positive note, the camera bump is gone. What makes this phone different from others announced at the MWC is the Dual Screen accessory. The V50 has an option of a second attachable 6.2-inch OLED display instead of the popular foldable design that took away the spotlight at the MWC. The second screen is powered by the internal battery and is intended to improve multitasking and even serve as a game controller in some cases.

LG announced that the LG V50 will be available in the upcoming months but only in the US, and then later on it will spread to other countries. Neither pricing nor the exact release date are available yet.
