Netflix EyeNav, A New Technology That Can Change Everything

Imagine you want to watch Netflix, but you are too lazy to tap on your screen, at the same time you don’t want to use voice commands for some reason. Well, Netflix has imagined this situation and found the perfect solution for you. Netflix EyeNav, a new technology that is perfect for those of us who are lazy.

Netflix unveiled EyeNav at its twice-a-year Hack Day event last week. The new technology will allow you to navigate through the Netflix app by staring at the screen with your eyes and for some commands, you might need to stick out your tongue.

This new technology is quite promising, we have finally come to the time where our smart devices can understand our facial expressions and eye movements and act based on them. The application of this new technology in other apps and devices might be really promising.

On the other hand, this might seem quite dangerous for some people, the smart devices that we are right now connected and attached to them like no other time have the ability to track our movements, record our voices, and read our faces. This could be misused in so many ways.

Netflix played a 60 minutes video to show off this new technology, and the nice comment on the video would be that at the end of the video they said EyeNav could have promise as an accessibility feature.

It is important to mention here that this new technology is not coming to Netflix any time soon, it is just a new cool feature that Netflix decided to unveil at their event. Especially that this isn’t a totally new technology, EyeNav was made possible by hacking the face recognition mechanism within the iOS on iPhone.

In the end, we can’t do anything but hope that Netflix or any other company will not use this technology to actually record and study our facial expressions and misuse them in any way. Or maybe they are already doing that, who knows?
