Netflix HDR shows are coming to Android with LG G6 first

It’s true that HDR shows are still somewhat exclusive for big, expensive TV screens, but that doesn’t mean that you won’t have the option to go mobile with it soon enough. In fact, Netflix is already rolling HDR support on Android, but only on one device as a start.

That device is the LG G6, the latest and greatest in LG‘s line of flagship phones. The choice wasn’t much of a surprise really, as G6 is the only Android phone on the market to support both Dolby Vision HDR and HDR10 that usually exist on big TVs.

But wait.. doesn’t the Samsung Galaxy S8 also provide HDR quality? Well, technically, yes. However, Samsung is using a different standard called “Mobile HDR Premium” which Netflix is still to work on, so in the meantime it’s only G6 getting 4K/HDR goodness.

If you own a G6 and have a running Netflix top-tier 4K subscription then you can wait for the upcoming app update which will provide you with HDR quality for select shows.
