New Android Auto update brings wide-screen support

Google’s in-car interface Android Auto did not wait long to offer its users yet another update. The latest version of Android Auto update brings few new exciting features including a new layout for certain vehicles as opposed to the simple basic layout that was present across the screens in hundreds of car head units.

The widescreen support is a big part of this Android Auto update. Although it was listed as one of the added features, the setting is not very simple to access. At the moment, you need to access the developer settings which can be done by tapping “About Android Auto” around 10 times at once. At the very bottom of the developer settings, there is “Force 1080p” option which can be turned on.

The change when the interface is in 1080p is quite obvious. The navigation moves from the bottom of the screen to the side and the home button is moved to the top left corner. The apps take up only a portion of the display as the right side now features a panel with time, date, signal and battery.

Of course, as most updates do, the new Android Auto update also brings usual bug fixes and small performance related improvements, including the keyboard. Besides this, the new in-call UI is added as well.
