LG takes Samsung head on with the new LG G6 flagship phone

Some interesting stuff is going around in MWC this year, and looks like LG wants to play it hard this year, with the announcement of the new flagship LG G6 and its awesomely-huge screen.

Although we already know even the smallest details about this phone thanks to all those leaks LG let through in the past few months, plus that final little leak right before the annunciation, the company still had much to unveil in the conference.

In the presentation, LG focused on the fact that this screen and this aspect ratio, in particular, will be the future of smartphones, they even went a bit further to say that this screen design is “more user friendly” than the curved screen design, LG asked other phone makers to join the cpnvoy and start using this ratio, as for LG themselves will be using it for upcoming phones.

Multitasking is one of the main benefits of this ratio, it will allow splitting the screen into two perfect squares, which makes multitasking a lot easier and better. The UXI called LG UX6.0 will be perfectly designed to work with this screen ratio.

The phone features a 5.7in screen with full vision technology, HDR 10 support, and Dolphy vision, to deliver the best color experience, and it will be the first mobile ever to use this technology.

The double rear cameras will have a wide angle of 125 degrees, which is wider that the human vision range, the front camera will have a 100-degree vision angle and “it will be perfect for group selfie lovers”, in addition, one common problem with the wide-angle phones that affects the zooming, will be solved. The camera will be backed up utilizing a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 to help with the zooming efficiency, shaky videos soothing, and delivering better-captured colors.

The other main focus was entertainment, LG promised many interesting things for fun lovers, like a 200$ worth of in-game purchases for certain games, a discount for an LG G6 gaming bundle for 49.99$ in the play store, and that the Dolphy vision will be available to work with Netflix and Amazon to deliver the best content compatible with the full vision screen. Promising +100Hrs of streamable programs and +90 movies.

And as an addition for that, the G6 will be the first device to feature the google AI assistant other than Google Pixel phones. It will be available in English and German as a start.

In terms of body design, the device features a minimalistic design with some aesthetic touches, a metal frame that is both reliable and classy, a glass rear that looks beautiful, and a flushed-to-body camera that doesn’t pop out. It will be available in three colors — as previously leaked; ice platinum, mystic white, and Astro black.

another point that LG had to make -against Samsung probable- is about device safety, especially the battery safety, a lot of details were given about how the battery is cooled and protected from near ICs heat, and how it will be protected by a bumper from shocks and falls, implying that they even went over worldwide standards with the device safety. The battery itself will have 3300mAh capacity and will be fast-charge compatible.

The phone is also to be waterproof and dust-proof and it will have a USB-C port. The price is yet to be revealed nor the release date, the leak before the show also showed the software part is still not complete, so we’ll have to wait to know more about that.
