New Qualcomm chip brings better sound to affordable speakers

If you follow the news, you might have noticed that headphones and speakers came to a standpoint, waiting for a breakthrough that will make the new devices better and different than the existing ones. Qualcomm is working on improving the performance and sound of wireless speakers and it has identified that Class D amplification can bring better results with its new Qualcomm chip, CSRA6640.

Class D amplification was of a large benefit to the speakers that used it because it provided better power efficiency but, unfortunately, it took away from performance as Class A amplification always delivered much better sound. Qualcomm set as a goal to improve the Class D amplification found in more affordable speakers. This would result in speakers with both good power efficiency and better and louder sound.

The solution is found in a new Qualcomm chip amplifier (CSRA6640) that relies on the new generation of Qualcomm’s Direct Digital Feedback Amplifier technology that is used for over a decade to combine the two desired features of affordable speakers. Unlike the previous generations, it will be a single chip that can fit in the smallest speakers on the market which would overall decrease the size of portable speakers as well as their price. It is expected to deliver configurable digital processing, support both PCM 384KHz and DSD128 formats, offer power management features and integrated output stage. The new chip might be the necessary breakthrough needed for the speakers, soundbars and amplifiers.
