Planar 8: Rega’s latest Turntable at an affordable price

Reag, the British audio equipment manufacturer is announcing its latest device in their line of turntables, the new Rega Planar 8. The British company said that the design of the new Planar 8 was inspired by the Naiad, the £30,000 turntable that Rega launched in 2013 to celebrate its 40th anniversary. In other words, it is the Naiad in a much affordable price.

To start with the platter, Rega has collaborated with a British glass engineering company to produce the three-piece, laminated glass platter. Besides the elegant design, this new platter will give more stability, keeping most of the mass on the outside part of the platter, keeping the inside part as light as possible.

The Planar 8 has a new RB880 tonearm made of thin stainless steel to give it a lighter weight, thus increasing stability and adjustability of the tonearm. A new bearing assembly is introduced as well. This will give the new tonearm a friction-free movement, which will increase the quality of the sound.

A new Neo power supply unit is also introduced in the new turntable, which features electronic speed change and anti-vibration control that will give you more control over the motor. The new supply unit also uses a digital signal processing generator that will make sure the platter is moving as accurate as possible.

The new Planar 8 will be available in the UK starting this month. It will come with three pricing options, cartridge-free for £1699, and two other factory-fitted cartridge options which are the Ania that already exist with the Planar 6, selling at £2119 in total, and the last option will come with the Apheta 2 cartridge for £2439.
