Qualcomm makes it easier to create Alexa wireless headphones

Throughout the past year, we have seen the two most popular smart assistants Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa spread into many third-party products. But while Google Assistant was getting support on all kind of products such as wireless speakers, soundbars, and wireless headphones. We haven’t seen many wireless headphones with Amazon Alexa built-in, except for Bose QuietComfort 35 II. But now Qualcomm has a plan to introduce more Alexa wireless headphones into the market.

Qualcomm announced that they have a new hardware and software package to sell to manufacturers to help them produce Alexa powered wireless headphones ‘more efficiently and cost-effectively’.

The American chipset manufacturer introduced a new Bluetooth Smart Headset reference design with push-button activation support for Alexa, and that’s only for Android smartphone owners with the Alexa app installed.

“Based on Qualcomm Technologies’ advanced Bluetooth Audio SoC QCC5124, the solution combines ultra-low-power consumption to help extend playback time and battery life,” Qualcomm said. “Manufacturers can add Qualcomm aptX Audio HD designed for high-resolution wireless audio.”

The new Qualcomm Bluetooth Smart Headset reference design is available for all manufacturers now. So are we going to see more and more wireless headphones with Amazon Alexa built-in? Maybe Alexa will step up for the competition with Google Assistant.
