Samsung HMD Odyssey .. The most expensive VR headset yet

Samsung HMD Odyssey new virtual reality headset leaks emerged powered by Microsoft’s Windows Mixed Reality platform last week. Until yesterday’s announcement was officially announced by the two companies, competing for the best VR headset in the arena currently working with Windows systems, Oculus Rift headset.

Samsung HMD Odyssey specifications

  • VR Headset
  • Built-in AKG Headphone
  • Built-in Microphone
  • 1440×1600 Pixels per Eye resolution
  • AMOLED OLED screen

The new Samsung HMD Odyssey features 1440×1600 pixels per eye, which is higher than the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive, offering 1200×1080 pixels per eye and even higher than Windows VR, which offers 1440×1440 pixels per eye.

The screen is also made using the AMOLED technology used by the company in its phones, especially in the high-end phones, as well as an OLED screen which means that it will provide clearer colours and better visibility.

The new headset also come with a motion controller, as well as integrated AKG headphone, an Australian company specializing in the manufacture of acoustics devices co-operated with Samsung. These speakers are essential in the VR glasses, although up until now Samsung HMD Odyssey is the only one of the Windows VR glasses that has it. It is supported by an internal and external tracker to suit Microsoft’s new software, which means you do not need to setup a camera to track the movement of the headset in the space.

There is also an internal microphone to connect with Microsoft Cortana, a personal assistant for Windows 10, and certainly for making calls over the Internet.

This is not, of course, the first VR produced by Samsung. It has long been preceded by the mobile-powered Gear VR, which is by far the most popular VR lens, according to the June data from International Data Corporation.
