Shure SE215 Earphone Review

This is a review for Shure SE215 noise isolation earphones. I’m trying not to be biased because I’ve been using Shure personally for more than 7 years now. Shure are without a doubt one of the best headphones and microphone manufactures in the world. We’ll be doing our review using the Limited blue edition of the SE215, and unfortunately Shure has stopped selling this edition now.

Design

The Se215 is the youngest between Shure’s IEM (in ear monitor) noise isolation earphones, it is their entry level. But this does not mean that they would come short in any aspect when it come to audio performance.

Out of the box

Straight from the box you’ll find the earphones with a soft fabric carry case, it is made of durable black fabric equipped with the clip to attach to you backpack, its not very protective though.

These are great exercise earphones unless you mind being fully isolated form your surroundings because once you put them on your are alone with your music.

The detachable kevlar reinforced cables are a plus that no one can deny, and the connectors are gold plated with a lock snap mechanism that allows 360 degrees rotation.

Style

I believe this to be the best design for earphones, it is elegant and modern.

The se215 come in 2 color options; black, clear, and previously they’ve issued a limited edition colored ones, same as the one i’m using for review but they have stopped producing them a year ago.

Build quality

The Kevlar reinforced cables are really durable and able to handle any type of normal use. The earphones themselves are well built, you feel the built quality the moment you hold them.

The ones that I’m using for this review have been in use for more than a year now and no issues whatsoever with them.

Comfort

I believe this fit type to be the best fit for in-ear headphones ever designed, once you choose the right type of ear tips for your ears you can wear them for hour and hours without any problems. The over the ear cable design is very comfortable and helps the earphones to stay in place.

Supplied accessories

  • Wax cleaning tip
  • Soft carry case
  • Variety of soft foam and flux ear tips in (S/M/L)

Sound

With no difference than all Shure headphones the sound quality of the SE215 is great, it is very well balanced with almost an even response along the whole frequency range, the mids are slightly more emphasized but that is not easy to detect for the untrained ear.

For any normal listener who’s looking for an entry level headphone the sound quality is impressive.

What is really worth mentioning while testing the se215 is the noise isolation these toys can provide, Shure claims that with the right ear tips the se215 can provide up to 37 dB of isolation, unfortunately I don’t have the instruments to test that yet but I can assure one thing, you can listen to your music tracks while watching a live formula1 race if your using these earphones.

All types of music and movies sounded really good on them even the gaming experience was good, I have tried them while playing the new Need for Speed Rivals on my PS4.

The amount of bass in Marin Garrix’s track Animals is unbelievable it very hard not to dance while listening.

Bass: For bass lovers the Se215 might come a little short but for any other listener the bass is great its  well balanced and strong with a good punch, with a little amplification you can even feel the very low and deep frequencies.

Mid-range: The strong mids have always been Shure’s signature and the Se215 are no different vocals and mid-range frequencies are very well presented.

Treble: They are a little shy when it comes to treble, high notes are clear and crisp but they can be a little more brought forward specially music with brass instruments like jazz music.

Sound Stage and instruments separations: sound stage is not that wide but you can still enjoy the music, considering that the SE215 are Shure’s entry level headphones then I’ve got to say Bravo on such an impressive job tuning them to produce such a nice sound

Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • Great noise isolation
  • Comfortable for long hour of listening
  • Great sound quality
  • Detachable headphones cable
  • Amazing value for money

Cons:

  • Smart Phone cable sold separately
  • Takes some time to learn how wear

Conclusion

At this price range it is very hard to compete with the SE215 very few competitors in the headphone market produce earphones of this sound and build quality at this price mark. I have always recommended them, they are a great ones to have with this price range.
