Snapchat To Unveil A New Gaming Platform

After a lot of rumors, Snap will launch a new gaming platform for Snapchat and most probably this will happen by next month according to a new report from Cheddar.

The new gaming platform will be unveiled at Snap’s first-ever summit for content and developer partners in Los Angeles on April 4. The invitation to the event has the tagline “Less talk. More play.” according to Cheddar.

The new gaming platform is codenamed “Project Cognac” within the company. It will include a lot of games that are developed by outside developers and designed to work specifically on Snapchat.

If we look back at Snapchat’s business moves in the past year will see that the gaming platform was coming. Back in January, the company acquired the Australian gaming studio “Prettygreat”, and about a year ago Snapchat had acquired a web-based game engine startup called PlayCanvas.

Also, the Chinese tech giant Tencent that produce big gaming titles like “King of Glory” and “League of Legends,” had bought a 12 percent worth of Snapchat’s shares. The Chinese company said at the time that it was so it could “explore cooperation opportunities with the company on mobile games publishing and news-feed,”.

It’s not the first time that we see Snapchat games. Back in 2018, the company launched “Snappables”, a bunch of lightweight, augmented reality games. But the new project seems to be a bigger long-term gaming platform.

There is still no word from Snap about the new gaming platform, so we still have to wait until next month to find out if we are going to play Snapchat games or not.
