Some Specs Of Upcoming iBasso DX220 Revealed

iBasso’s original DX200 made a fair splash for the company. It was by far their most expensive and full-featured product, not to mention a build quality that was both unheard of for them at the time, but also exceeded what other manufacturers could produce. Then came the DX150 which cost considerably less, offered the same modular amp feature and was housed in essentially the same device aesthetically. Now iBasso is returning with a new flagship called the DX220.

The DX220

Judging from the first few promo images, it seems that iBasso have been hard at work to refine the design of the DX200 and DX150. Whilst the overall look is very similar to the current devices, the DX220 has sleeker lines, especially looking at the side where the volume dial and playback buttons are located. It’s more of a machined one-piece chassis as opposed to the almost modular-look of the DX200 and DX150.

Thus far the specs that have been confirmed are that the DX220 will have Bluetooth 5.0, 4GB of RAM (as opposed to the 2GB used in the DX200), and a total of 5 femtosecond oscillators, two of which are from Accusilicon.

Other details are being speculated upon, such as that it will feature a larger 5-inch display but the same ES9028Pro DAC chip as found in the DX200. Apparently the plan was to incorporate the ES9038Pro but the power consumption didn’t deem this a viable option. But again, those are the current speculations.

One particular speculation is that one of the promotional images released by iBasso seems to indicate that the DX220 might feature some kind of cellular capability (accept a SIM card). The below image seems to show a signal strength bar to the left of the WiFi signal strength indicator. But at this point it’s unclear if this is indeed an included feature, or perhaps just a Photoshop blunder.

Availability

Rumour has it that we might see the official introduction of the DX220 as early as sometime in April. This could mean it might hit the stores around the same time as some of FiiO’s latest products which were unveiled about a week ago.
