Sony announces the WH-1000XM5, and it’s a better XM4 but also more expensive!

The Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones are finally here, but nobody seems to be surprised, given the recent leaks that revealed many details about the new flagship ANC headphones. However, the real surprise was the price, as Sony will launch the XM5s at 399.99$, 50$ more than the previous WH-1000XM4, which the manufacturer is keeping it in the market for the same original price of 349.99$.

The Design of the new XM5 is somehow new but looks familiar. Sony went for more simplified details, and it really got some inspiration from Apple’s AirPods Max and Bose’s 700 because of that rounding mechanism and the sliding stem. Anyway, the plastic Sony uses everywhere doesn’t really help the WH-1000XM5 look that premium.

As for the specs, Sony ended up putting not one but two processors inside the WH-1000XM5, and while that will not improve its noise-cancelling capabilities by twice, it’s definitely helping a lot in the mid and high-frequency noise. The XM5 shares the same controls as its predecessor and supports all features that everybody loved, like 360 Reality Audio and LDAC codec, but it houses completely different drivers; 30mm instead of 40mm ones, and with that, Sony aims to improve sound clarity and enhance bass reproduction.

We are still in day number one, and yet, Sony has already received enough criticism for a year, mainly due to the higher price. So, either the company is very confident about what it has done, or it made a big mistake by keeping the biggest competitor of the new XM5 alive in the market; the old XM4!
