Sony Launches RX100 VI in the Emirates

Sony‘s RX-line of cameras are pretty darn popular. To some extent, one could argue that the RX100-series is somewhat of a benchmark when it comes to what is possible and what one could/should expect from a modern “compact” digital camera. The RX100 VI, as the name suggests, is the 6th iteration of this iconic compact camera and with it comes a whole host of new improvements and features.

What’s New In The RX100 VI?

Whilst Sony stuck the exact same Exmor RS CMOS sensor in the mark VI as was found in the mark V, we do get a new lens. Instead of a 24-70mm lens, we no get a 24-200mm lens offering an effective 8.3X optical zoom, although that has dropped the maximum aperture from 1.8 to 2.8 as a result. The built in neutral density filter that was found in the mark V has also been removed from the mark VI, but we do get improved display articulation. Where the display of the mark III, IV, and V could tilt 180-degrees upwards but only 45-degrees downwards, the display on the mark VI can now also tilt 90-degree downwards.

One point we do need to, errmm, focus on, is the auto-focus. Where the RX100 V had an already impressive auto-focus speed of just 0.05 seconds (the same as the A6500), the RX100 VI ups the ante by boasting an insanely fast speed of 0.03 seconds which is the world’s fastest auto-focus speed for a 1-inch type camera sensor. That’s literally faster than the speed at which the average human blinks his/her eyes.
And speaking of speed – the RX100 VI is also capable of shooting slow-motion video up to a crazy 960fps. To put that into perspective, that means that you could shoot a 960fps video for a single second which would then equate to a a 32-second video playing at 30fps.

Pricing and Availability

The RX100 VI (as well as the mark III, IV, and V) are available at the KANSAS store in Mall of The Emirates, at Sony Centre in Dubai mall, and numerous other retailers across the country. The RX100 VI comes with a price-tag of AED 4,899 (approx. $1,335).
