You can now use Tidal on Amazon Echo smart speakers

Tidal, the music streaming platform owned by Jay-Z that offers high fidelity sound quality and high definition music videos to users from 52 countries in the world is finally coming to Amazon’s smart speakers: Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, and Echo Plus. The way Tidal on Amazon Echo smart speaker will work is by using the Music Skill API which allows services to add Alexa support directly without having to rely on Amazon like it was the case for Spotify, Pandora, and Deezer so far, with Tidal being the first to take advantage of this feature.

In order to use the new option and Tidal on Amazon Echo Tidal subscription is needed but from there on, it can be accessed as any other Alexa skill. Unfortunately, Tidal “Masters” tracks, the very high- quality FLAC files which are available only to Tidal Hi-Fi subscribers, are not compatible with Amazon Echo speaker due to the hardware limitations. This will mean that streamed music from the playlists will be in a lower resolution that is common for other subscription tiers.

Tidal offers a two-tier subscription system with the standard packet being $10, and the Hi-Fi packet being $20 but brings lossless high fidelity sound quality and high definition of music videos. Each new subscriber gets a month free trial
