xDuoo Launches Nano D3 Player

In a world of big corporations like Sony and Pioneer, it’s easy to often be entirely unaware of the smaller, more obscure brands. Heck, over the last few years Fiio have really made a name for themselves, and the evolution of their products are a reflection of the company’s evolution too.
Still, there are some even smaller companies out there, one of which is called xDuoo. Yes, you’re right, not a single person in the entire universe knows how to pronounce that name…but whatever.
xDuoo have been around for a little while now, and their DAP portfolio includes producs called the X2 and X3. From a design perspective, xDuoo’s products are evidently still in the early stages. The devices don’t look particularly modern or refined, but everyone has to start out somewhere, right? Recently they introduced their newest mini DAP – the Nano D3.

At the heart of the Nano D3

Under the hood the Nano D3 seems to be running on an integrated DAC, rather than a discreet DAC package from the likes of Texas Instruments or Cirrus Logic. Powering it all is a 900mAh battery which enables the Nano D3 to play continuously for up to 20 hours. But don’t let that relative small battery fool you, as the Nano D3 is capable of outputting up to 250mW into a 32-ohm load. This is rather impressive when you take into account that the Shanling M2s has a 1800mAh battery, can only manage up to 130mW into a 32-ohm load, and has a maximum continuous playback time of 10 hours. So essentially, the Nano D3 has the capability of outputting double the power and run for twice as long whilst only having half the battery capacity. Sweeeet!

Other audio-related specs include a frequency response range of 10-100kHz, a distortion figure of just 0.005%, and a SNR of 107dB. Audio files of up to 192kHz/24-bit are supported, as well as DSD256.

The Nano D3’s display is a 2-inch IPS panel running a resolution of 240×320, giving it a pixel density of 200ppi. Judging from xDuoo’s online images, the Nano D3 supports up to 256Gb microSD cards, but there seems to be a 6400 track limit, meaning that when perform a media library update, the Nano D3 will only be able to build a database consisting of a maximum of 6400 tracks. This is likely a software limitation, as we’ve seen this same type of issue on some of Fiio’s older devices.

Pricing & Availability

The Nano D3 is available online and prices are pegged at around the $80 mark.
