Acer releases the first Chrome OS tablet

Chrome OS is the OS from Google for laptops, desktops, and Convertibles. Well, that was until March 26th with the launch of the new Acer Chromebook Tab 10, the first tablet the runs on Chrome OS.

The new Tab 10 has a 9.7-inch screen, with a resolution of 2048×1536. 4GB of RAM, front and a rear camera, an estimated battery life of 9 hours, 32GB of storage, and USB-C port. The Tab 10 has also an SD card slot with a headphone jack.

Just like the Samsung Galaxy Note series, the Tab 10 is provided with a built-in stylus, without any charging or battery required.

What’s really noticeable here is that Acer launched the tablet just a day before the Apple’s launch of its new low-cost iPad and that the new tablet looks really similar to the iPad. However, Tab 10 already have one advantage on Apple’s iPad which is the built-in stylus, Apple offers you a separate stylus for $99, and it needs charging and to be kept separately.

It’s so clear the Acer and Google are trying to compete with Apple by the launch of Tab 10, the new tablet will be targeting the education market -just like the iPad-, but it’s more reasonable for schools to buy a tablet that has a built-in stylus, than buying an iPad without one. Google is dominating the education market with many schools preferring Chromebook over Apple products, especially with their cloud classroom and office tools that cover everything, that would give the Tab 10 the advantage because schools and students are already familiar with the Chrome OS.

The Tab 10 will cost $329, which is more expensive than the new iPad that is $299, but the built-in stylus makes a difference, and if schools are looking for something just like the iPad but with Chrome OS, then this is what are they going to buy. The new Chromebook Tab 10 will be available in North America by next month, and in two-month time it will be available worldwide.
