After three years, a new MOMENTUM 4 from Sennheiser with a 60-hour battery life

A new pair of ANC headphones from Sennheiser, the Momentum 4, after about three years without any updates for its flagship series. Compared to the last generation, the Momentum 3, released in 2019, the new headset doesn’t look any familiar. The new design is simplified, using more plastic than before, but it’s more comfortable with minimal clamping force on the ears and is also more stylish, gone away all that retro metal and leather aesthetics. Portability is another advantage of the new shape, which bring the ability to rotate flat, so carrying the Momentum 4 around or putting them in your bag won’t be a problem. In addition to that, Sennheiser has opted for a new controlling system, relying on the vast touch-sensitive space on the right earcup.

Sennheiser MOMENTUM 4 specs and features

Unlike the Sony WH-1000XM5, the Momentum 4 has a 42mm driver, the same size as the Momentum 3. However, Sennheiser has tuned it to create an exceptional sound with unique characteristics. The company was happy to speak about that in its press release:

“MOMENTUM 4 Wireless delivers Sennheiser’s Signature Sound that surpasses everything in its class – letting users enjoy their music as never before. Thanks to an audiophile-inspired acoustic system powered by a 42mm transducer, the MOMENTUM 4 Wireless provides brilliant dynamics, clarity and musicality.

Sennheiser enforced its new headphones with improved mics for better performance in voice calls. The company also didn’t forget to give the Momentum 4 the essential aspects of practicality, like adaptive ANC, replaceable ear pads, multipoint connectivity, wired USB-C audio, and the support for AAC, SBC, aptX, and aptX Adaptive Bluetooth codecs.

But all of that aside, the biggest selling point of the new Momentum 4 seems to be its battery, which is claimed to last up to 60 hours of playback time on a single charge and supports quick-charge, so that it will deliver about 6 hours of use after just 10 minutes of charge. Big numbers dwarf a lot of what other competitors offer.

Despite all the improvements and updates over the last generation, the new Momentum 4 will be available for 50$ less, at 349.95 USD. The preorders start today, 9 August, and the product should be available in stores by the 23rd.
