Apex Legends hits 25 million players in its first week

The past year has been the year for Battle Royale in the world of gaming and the new battle royale game Apex Legends which dropped last week has hit 25 million players in its first week, thus smashing Fortnite’s record, which only hit 10 million players after 2 weeks. Apex Legends also exceeded 2 million concurrent players last weekend.

Apex Legends was developed by Respawn and EA, who have recently said that the game’s success has exceeded their wildest imagination. In a tweet, the company thanked many Twitch streamers who have been key in the games success. Furthermore, the game comes for free, which was also instrumental in its success. However, Apex Legends has a different take on the battle royale game mode, as the gameplay is a lot like Overwatch, with heroes and legendary weapons, but also keeps graphics that are reminiscent of Fortnite. It its primarily geared for squads of three players, although we expect that duo and solo modes are in the works.

If Apex Legends continues to grow at this rate, we will see it smash other records. It took Fortnite almost 6 months to reach 45 million players and it looks like Apex Legends is set to claim that record within the next week. However, maintaining this momentum is going to be hard.

The first season of Apex Legends will start in March, and with it will come many new weapons and loot, as well as new Legends to choose from. The Battle Pass for the season will also be available for purchase when the first season starts. But in the meantime, you can expect some special Valentine’s day themed goods and loot to drop on the day, and you can also head over to Twitch to check out the game or download it for free now from here.
