Apple’s new earbuds health-tracking features

As patentlyapple.com referred to “Earbuds with Biometric Sensing” Looks like Apple has plans to give their wireless earbuds the ability to read biometric stats; heart-rate, VO2 (the maximum rate of oxygen consumption) and body temperature, plus sound canceling technology. All these new features added to the Apple Earbuds was revealed after Apple declared three new patents, this means we’ll see these new features soon enough.

The same tech used in these buds is also used with Apple Watch, but as conventional earbuds won’t stay in contact with the body the same way the hand watch does, the results may be questionable. The sound cancellation though will possible work within the range of 10-20 degrees, which allows hearing nearby conversation, also providing a full sound cancellation mode to completely suppress external sounds.

Apple is surely not the father of the biometric sensors, not even the father of headphones biometric sensor – late 2014 SMS Audio and Intel cooperated to create the BioSport headphones, which had a biometric sensor to measure heart rate and fitness data. As for more recent usage of this tech, Bose’s SoundSport Pulse measured heart-rate and can be connected to different tracking phone applications.
